Question:Is the wood paintable?
Answer:It’s pre-stained in a walnut color from water based stain. Painting it correctly you’ll need to power wash the wood to get out as much stain as possible. Let completely dry , then prime it and then paint it. Cedar is very receptive to most exterior paints but an exterior primer will help seal up all the pores and ridges better.

Question:Are the posts made of real cedar or just soft pine as someone else said? Also, is any of it laminated?
Answer:Backyard Discovery uses 100% Chinese Cedarwood which is naturally bug resistant, decay and rot-resistant. To help ensure your child’s safety, our wood is completely chemical-free and we do not use pressure-treated wood. The stain we use is a topcoat using a water-based product that is for appearance only. Chinese Cedar is part of the cypress family of woods and is a close cousin of the Western Red Cedar.
The wood used has the name Cunninghamia Lancelota (commonly called China Cedar). Cunninghamia Lancelota and Western Red Cedar not only share the same properties but are classified in the same family, Cupressaceae or Cypress family. The Cypress family includes many common kinds of wood such as Redwood and Western Red Cedar as well as Chinese Cedar. We selected Cunninghamia Lancelota for our products for its durability, small knot structure, and smoother appearance; in addition to its natural ability to resist decay, fungus, and insects. These added benefits and appearance qualities make it one of the best options for outdoor play structures and outdoor patio structures.
